Dr. Ayse Unsal

Dr. Ayse Unsal is a clinical neuropsychologist, in good standing with the College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO #2975) and obtained her Ph.D. from University of Waterloo. She undertook graduate and postdoctoral research in the areas of neuropsychology of brain injury, electrophysiological correlates, neuroanatomical correlates of cognition, and more recently rehabilitation from traumatic brain injury, and has peer-reviewed publications in these areas. Her post-doctoral clinical training was undertaken at Hamilton Health Sciences (HHS), a regional trauma centre, at the Acquired Brain Injury Program. Dr. Unsal has been a consulting clinical neuropsychologist since 1999 within HHS seeing adult patients with a wide variety or disorders including strokes, traumatic brain injury, seizures, tumours, immune disorders (including HIV, MS, Lupus), Dementias (including CJD, FTD, AD, Huntington`s Chorea, PD, Multi infarct), and psychiatric comorbidities including psychosis, chronic pain, depression, anxiety, and somatization disorders. Dr. Unsal provides supervision to neuropsychology doctoral residents of HHS, in a CPA accredited Clinical Neuropsychology program. For over 20 years, she has also provided neuropsychological consultations to the Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care, assessing adult psychiatric patients and providing assistance with diagnosis, and recommendations for management and further recovery. Since 1999 she has undertaken insurance and medicolegal neuropsychological assessments, initially DAC and later Catastrophic determination evaluations, and has been accepted as an expert in her field by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and by the Financial Services Commission of Ontario. Dr. Unsal estimates that she has provided neuropsychological evaluations for minimally 4000 individuals within the public hospital, and 300 individuals within private insurance/medicolegal settings.
